Itinerary
Begin your walk at the Open-Air Water Power Museum, where old water-powered systems offer a glimpse into how the region once worked and lived. From here, the trail follows a cobbled path once used by millers, leading into the heart of Lousios Gorge. As you walk, the landscape changes from open views to narrower river paths, with the sound of the Lousios River growing stronger with each step. At certain points, you’ll cross the cool water on foot, adding a physical connection to the route. It’s an active walk shaped by nature and local history.
Go out on a four-kilometre circular trek through Arcadia’s fir forests, following part of the well-known Menalon Trail. The route moves through shaded woodland, with the sound of the Mylaon River close by for much of the walk. Along the trail, small waterfalls and clear pools appear between the trees, offering natural stopping points to rest and enjoy the surroundings. The path is steady and easy to follow, making it suitable for those looking for an active but relaxed outdoor experience. It’s a chance to spend time in a calmer part of Arcadia, away from the roads and villages.
Head to the clear waters of Lousios River for a rafting experience through one of the region’s most striking natural routes. Guided by certified instructors in small groups, you’ll paddle through narrow canyon sections, moving past stretches of river that can only be reached by water. The pace shifts between active rapids and calmer sections, giving you time to enjoy the landscape around you. After the rafting route, the experience continues with a short river trek through the canyon, ending at a waterfall where you can pause, cool off and immerse yourself in the surroundings before heading back.
If you find yourself in Vytina or the nearby villages of Stemnitsa and Dimitsana, don't miss a ride with the horses in the fir forest. This is a dreamy life-changing experience of horse riding in the virgin fir forest. Local guides will match you with a horse and lead you through routes once used by shepherds and travellers. You can ride at your own pace – slow and steady or with more pace as the terrain opens up. It’s a simple but grounding way to connect with Arcadia’s landscape, where time feels slow and the forest still holds its old-world calm.
