Set out at first light into Sariska Tiger Reserve, home to 56 tigers roaming one of Rajasthan’s most storied wildernesses. Cross dry deciduous forest and rocky Aravalli terrain with an experienced guide, watching for pugmarks, calls and the quiet tension of the jungle waking up.

Beyond tigers, the reserve holds leopard, sambar, nilgai and a rich cast of birdlife moving through the same early light. Sightings are never guaranteed — that’s the nature of wild India — but the safari itself, threading through ancient hills at sunrise, is reason enough to rise early and head into Sariska’s wild heart.

Drive into Neelkanth Valley, a temple town whose surviving structures date from the 8th to the 15th century, and spend the afternoon among 32 ruins considered archaeological marvels of Indian art and craftsmanship. Carved stone temples, once part of a thriving pilgrimage centre, now stand quietly amid the Aravalli hills, their sculpture and architecture still legible after centuries of weather and time.
